Volunteer and Staff Member-Vanguard Cadets & Santa Clara Vanguard
Beginning in 2015 when our son started marching with the Vanguard Cadets, my wife and I started volunteering with the organization and quickly fell in love with the members, staff, and other volunteers. We hosted the corps at Buena Park HS where I was the band director and went on three national tours with them in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
I was honored to join the admin staff as Tour Manager in 2018, and became Corps Director in 2019. I am now a proud support vehicle driver for the parent organization, the 2018 DCI World Champion Santa Clara Vanguard.
Support Driver, Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps (2024, 2025)
Provide driver support (box truck and utility SUV) for the Santa Clara Vanguard drum corps. Included night driving as well as multi-state towing of support trailers. DOT medical certification (Class C).
Corps Director, Vanguard Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps (Fall 2018-Summer 2019)
Oversee the drum corps program and execute daily tasks required to operate effective auditions, rehearsal camps, spring training, and summer performance tour. Helped establish and maintain a professional, safe, and welcoming environment for all personnel -- including students, staff, and volunteers.
Tour Manager, Vanguard Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps (Fall 2017-Summer 2018)
Assist the Corps Director with all aspects of the 2018 National Summer Tour, including housing at multiple school sites, overseeing food purchasing and delivery for members, volunteers, and staff. Provide assistance as needed with driving support vehicles and various administrative tasks.
Volunteer Food Co-Manager, Vanguard Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps (2016-2018)
Supervise and plan menus with the Food Manager for the Winter and Spring camps as well as the 2016 and 2017 national tours. Coordinate food drops with US Foods and Sysco across several Midwest states during the summer tour. Assist with the scheduling of volunteers (four times a day) for the meal services to 200 members, staff, and volunteers.
